Wright Brother’s National Memorial
Located just minutes from Nag’s Head at Kill Devil Hills is the Wright Brothers
National Memorial, which pays tribute to brothers Orville and Wilbur
Wright. The memorial stands on the site where they took
their first powered flying machine on a sustained flight.
The brothers kept their
machine in the air for 59 seconds and travelled 852 feet.
While at the memorial, be sure to visit the Wright Brothers museum. The museum
demonstrates the principles the brothers used, has reproductions
of their glider, as well as their camp workshop and hangar.
There are also interactive tours and displays. You can see
the 1903 airplane or climb trek to the top of the monument
site.
