Fun on the Water in North Carolina

If you love adventure and water, then NC has much to offer—from white water rafting to fishing, canoeing and tubing, you can find something that appeals to your whole family.

If it’s rafting that you love, then head toward the Nantahala River in the western part of NC, where you can go on trips that range from gentle float rides to Class IV rapids. The best time of the year for this activity is from spring until fall. You may choose to enjoy the water a slightly different pace like canoeing or kayaking down North Carolina’s many waterways. For day trips down the Nantahala River contact the Nantahala Outdoor Center (1-800-232-7238). The NOC offers trips down 7 southeastern rivers (the Chattooga, Cheoah, French Broad, Nantahala, Nolichucky, Ocoee, and Pigeon), in the North Carolina region. They also have classes for beginners in kayaking, canoeing and white water rafting.
