NC Zoo

In the center of North Carolina, just a short trip from Greensboro is Asheboro (not to be confused with the mountain town of Asheville). It is here, in this central location that you will find the NC Zoological Park. The NC Zoo is one of the largest walk through natural habitat zoos in the United States. It has five miles of trails that meander through various habitats from around the world. You can see North American Bison, African Elephants, tropical birds and plants, a desert atrium, and snakes from many different regions. There are river otters, polar bears, seals and sea lions, as well as giraffes, zebras, and ostrich.

The kids will love the garden themed playground with its rope climbing wall, over-sized praying mantis, gourd caves, and flower leaf slide. You can ride the carousel, go on 3-D rides, or take a tram ride across the zoo. There are concessions throughout the park, as well as a picnic area and two restaurants.

Open Year round—except Christmas

If you love zoos you can't miss the best zoo in the South, the Atlanta Zoo, or properly known as Zoo Atlanta. See the panda bears, baby tigers, and more in neighboring Georgia.
