Golf in North Carolina

One of many North Carolinian’s favorite leisure activities is golfing. And, no matter where you plan to visit, you can be sure there will be a golf course nearby.

In the northern Outer banks area of Corolla, try the Currituck Club , the Carolina Club in Grandy, or the Duck Woods Country Club in Southern States. Should you head farther south, you will find Southport Beach in Brunswick County. Brunswick, known as the “Golf Coast of North Carolina”, has 600 holes at over 35 courses.

Does your itinerary bring you to the Piedmont region? Then you will find numerous places to practice your put. In Pinehurst, host of the 1999 US Open, there are so many choices that you will need to visit www.sandhillsgolf.com to select your spot. In the Chapel Hill area, check out the Governor’s Club, the Twin Lakes Golf Course (919-933-1024) or UNC’s Finley Golf Course. In Durham, visit Hillandale Golf Course. Greensboro, North Carolina is home to the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic and has many places to choose from. Some of the courses include Grandover Resort and Bryant Park Championship Course and Players course to name a few.

In the Winston-Salem area, check out Heather Hills Golf Course, Hilcrest Golf course, Meadowlands Golf Course or Olde Homestead Golf Club. On the weekends, you may choose Long Creek Golf Course, Tanglewood Park, and Old Salem Country Club.

As you enter the North Carolina Mountains check out the weekend greens at Mount Mitchell Golf Club (828-675-5454). Here the view is so magnificent your golf score will seem insignificant! The Asheville area is so replete in golf courses that your best shot is to contact the Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau to find out about area courses and availability. You can also stay at the Crowne Plaza Tennis & Golf Resort in Asheville which offers time share villas and its own 9-hole on-site golf course, as well as easy access to other courses in the mountain region. In Chimney Rock the weather is so nice that you can play all year round. Whether at the Apple Valley Golf Course, the Bald Mountain Golf Course, or the Lake Lure Golf Course you’re sure to have a great time.

So grab your balls and let's go have fun.
